Namchi, 12th July, 2023: The incident of June 27 leading to the death of a local youth Padam Gurung, have taken a turn of judicial inquiry to maintain peace in Namchi today. Wherein, Namchi Police have given a strong support to the decision made by the chief minister PS Tamang, in Betghari Namchi, at the residence of late Padam Gurung, where he met the bereaved family of the deceased, during his last rite. The chief minister in Betghari consoled the family by stating that he will initiate the subjudicial investigation, by recruiting a retired judge of High Court, who was recruited by home department by the evening today only.
A few days back, the SDF party's student wing had given an ultimatum to Namchi Police to give the satisfactory reports of the police investigation by July 12 on the death of the youth in topic, but when talking to the superintendent of police Namchi, in his office, at evening yesterday, he had stated that the police need a few more days to brief the media. However, when meeting SP Namchi today afternoon, in his office, he said that nobody can give ultimatum to the judiciary now.
It is noteworthy, that the chief minister of Sikkim, PS Tamang, who is also the home and finance minister of the state, still holds the highest power in the ongoing investigation, and have made some major changes in the processes. From the beginning of the death of late Padam Gurung, he has been giving condolences to the family and the institution the deceased was studying in, but, on his orders only, the various investigation teams were formed, and today's order for judiciary investigation too was announced by him only.
Albeit, the legislative, the judiciary, and the executive, will no doubt work for the upholding of the justice for a commoner, but his death is a loss to one of the students of journaliasm and mass communication from 'one brother', and was not heard of before.
The one man judicial inquiry will be headed by Justice NK Jain (retd), former Chief Justice, High Court of Sikkim to inquire into unnatural death of Padam Gurung, of Betghari, Chuba Perbing. The retired chief justice was referred to complete the inquiry and submit a report within one month's period from today.
