Season’s First Snowfall Blankets Higher Reaches of Sikkim Nikita Rai

The first snowfall of the season has turned the state of Sikkim into a winter wonderland, however certain places have been disrupted by the heavy precipitation. Tuesday 7th January night saw a lot of snowfall in the highest parts of Sikkim, such as Nathula, Tsomgo Lake, and the 15th Mile. Travel has become highly perilous due to the significant temperature drops and the formation of black ice at Thulo Khola. Although officials have deemed these routes dangerous for the time being, the 129th General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) is working to remove snow and ice. Until further notice, permits to enter Tsomgo Lake and Nathula have been suspended. In contrast, the hamlet of Dzuluk has also experienced its first snowfall of the year. The arrival of snow in the area was celebrated by both locals and tourists. snowfall also fell on Bhaleydhunga, which is in Namchi District in Yangang. Pure white snow has added to the area's natural attractiveness, transforming it into a stunning winter paradise. Views of the snow-covered countryside are captivating for visitors to the area. It is recommended that travelers follow the safety instructions provided by the authorities and keep abreast of road conditions. Although the snowfall has been joyful and beautiful, the roads are dangerous and slick, therefore care must be taken.
