Kathmandu, Nepal – In a significant step toward bolstering defense cooperation between India and Nepal, Lt. Gen. Zubin A. Minwalla, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 33 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment, 9 Gorkha Rifles, visited Nepal. His visit aimed to enhance military-to-military collaboration and reinforce the deep-rooted ties between the Indian Army and the Nepalese Army.
During his stay, Lt. Gen. Minwalla met with General Ashok Raj Sigdel, Chief of Army Staff, Nepalese Army, and Honorary General of the Indian Army, at the Nepalese Army Headquarters in Kathmandu. Their discussions focused on strengthening strategic defense ties, exploring new avenues for cooperation, and fostering regional security coordination.
In addition, Lt. Gen. Minwalla held discussions with Maj. Gen. Pawan Raj Ghimire, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nepalese Army’s Eastern Division. Their engagement emphasized shared security interests and enhanced military coordination between the two nations.
Further reinforcing India’s commitment to its ex-servicemen in Nepal, Lt. Gen. Minwalla visited the Defence Wing’s Welfare Branch and the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinic in Kathmandu. He interacted with Nepalese ex-servicemen who had served in the Indian Army, reaffirming India’s dedication to their well-being through healthcare and support initiatives.
The military ties between India and Nepal have a unique historical and cultural significance, with thousands of Nepalese soldiers serving in the Indian Army. Lt. Gen. Minwalla’s visit highlights the ongoing commitment of both nations to regional stability, security, and the welfare of ex-servicemen, further strengthening the India-Nepal defense partnership.
