A young and brave officer of the Indian Army, Lieutenant Sasank Tiwari, tragically lost his life in a mishap during a routine patrol in the Chhu Junction area along the Lachung axis in North Sikkim on 22 May According to official sources, the incident occurred while Lt. Tiwari was trekking on foot with a team of five soldiers in a challenging high-altitude terrain. During the ascent near Chhu Junction, he reportedly slipped and was swept away by a fast-moving drain, likely swollen by recent snowmelt or rainfall. Despite immediate search efforts by his team, Lt. Tiwari could not be saved. His body was later recovered and has been transported to the Siliguri Military Hospital, where formal procedures are underway. Lt. Tiwari’s untimely martyrdom has cast a pall of grief over his unit and the wider Army community. Known for his dedication and leadership, he was a promising young officer who had been serving in difficult and demanding terrain.
