Fallen hero of operation Vijay, Sepoy Suresh Chhetri was remembered today on his 24th death anniversary at his native place in Naxalbari.

By Prashant Acharya Siliguri, 6th July: Fallen hero of operation Vijay, Sepoy Suresh Chhetri was remembered today on his 24th death anniversary at his native place in Naxalbari. Suresh from 2nd Naga Regiment was martyred on 7th July 1999 while fighting Pakistani soldiers at Moshkoh valley in Dras sector of Kargil. A tribute was paid by 40 Army personnel of 2nd Naga Regiment who are of motorcycle expedition team from Kohima to Kargil including Gram Panchayat officials, police officers, family members, relatives, ex-Army men and villagers. National flag was hoisted and tribute was paid to martyred soldier on his statues installed at Sathbhaiya More and Tarabari in Naxalabri. Lt Col. Ravinder Singh who was leading the expedition team to Kargil thanked the villagers and family members of Chhetri for the hospitality and love. On behalf of martyred family Suresh’s wife Manju, son Suman Kargil Suresh and younger brother Netraraj Chhetri also thanked the soldiers for travelling to such a long distance to participate in the tribute ceremony. Suman Kargil Suresh Chhetri, posthumous son of martyred son expressed gratitude towards the soldiers of expedition team and said that he is proud to be the son of such a great hero who never set back before enemies and fought for the nation without fear. To commemorate the historical day Tricycles, wheelchairs and walkers were donated to 20 physically challenged people after the tribute was paid to martyr. Rajkumar Nascal a senior teacher for visibly impaired students of Naxalbari school said, “The kind and love shown towards physically challenged people is appreciable and this kind of initiative will not only built the morale of such people but also help them to move with an ease.
