In a bold move towards sustainability and community progress, the residents of Ratepaani have embraced with the concept of organic bee farming. Situated in Middle Rateppaani, Namthang Block, Namchi District, the Himali Bee Framing Co-Operative Society Ltd, registered on 28th February 2022 under Regd. No. S13/RTP/0024/COOP, has emerged as a beacon of collective effort and shared prosperity. Initially founded by 10 members and now consist of 15 individuals, the cooperative society visualize unity and progress. The recent program on 28th November 2023, attended by notable figures such as Mrs. Lakpa Choden Sherpa, President of the society, Mr. Amber Bdr Pradhan, the manager, Corporation Department Namchi District Mr. Sidhant Rai, Asst. Registrar of Cooperative Societies (ARCS), Mr. A.B Gurung the Joint Secretary of Cooperation Department of Gangtok, Mr. Prem Kumar Rai the resource person from Turuk, Mr. Youl Rai the resource person from the resident along with other members of this Cooperative Society showcased their commitment to communal advancement.
Around with 50 scientific bee boxes people are farming so far, and they're manufacturing other 100 bee clay hives costing around 70k, the society is using pine timber for hive construction. This choice not only aligns with sustainable practices but also ensures warmth during winter, safeguarding the bees within it.
Beyond the other employment, community members have seized the opportunity to engage in bee farming, viewing it as a sustainable source of livelihood. Their products have already found a market in various localities, with plans to expand it globally. The journey has proven financially workable, providing an alternative to conventional employment and showcasing the community's entrepreneurial spirit.
In the face of economic challenges, the Organic Himali Bee Farming initiative stands as a testament to the strength of Ratepaani's residents. Through collaborative efforts, they are not only securing their economic well-being but also contributing to the broader narrative of sustainable and community-driven progress.
It's impressive to see the widespread presence of cooperative societies in India, especially in sectors like agriculture, banking, and housing industries. The success stories of cooperatives like Amul and Lijjat Papad demonstrate the potential for collaborative efforts.
