Class XII Student of Namchi Senior Secondary School, Bikash Chettri, Runs 90kms Marathon

Namchi, 14th August, 2023: A student of Namchi Senior Secondary School, Bikash Chettri, aged 23years old, hailing from Temi-Tarku completed a solo marathon from Namchi Senior Secondary School to MG Marg Gangtok, today, on the occassion of 'Meri Maati, Mera Desh' which is an ongoing programme of the Government of India, on its 77th year of independence.

The student have said that he have decided to run 90kilometers distance this day, to encourage youths into fitness and healthy lifestyle. Bikash Chettri is a student of Namchi Senior Secondary School who is pursuing his studies in Retail Management, and have recently given the examination of class XII board exam. Chettri have informed that his a professional long distance runner, who have already run in many long distance runs, including Gangtok to Namchi run performed solo last year.

The student after starting his run from his school at 06:30am in the assembly courtyard of NSSS, within two hours crossed Namthang Bazaar. He was escorted by four of his teachers; Sonam Topzor Bhutia, Eshkol Rai, Sunil Rai and RP Dhakal on vehicle, upto the concluding venue in Gangtok.

The principal of Namchi Senior Secondary School, Hari Manger, who flagged off the run from the school with the class teacher of the runner, Chumjey Lepcha, before the start of the run, have said that the school is proud of Bikash Chettri, and wished the best to his student for the day and the daysbto come. Principal Hari Mangar have also said that Bikash Chettri is a nephew of an honored martyr of India, Sanjog Chettri, of Boomtar Namchi. He have thanked the district collector of Namchi for granting the permission to his student in carrying out the run in Namchi District and have praised the initiative taken by the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, on India's 77th Independence Day and for organizing 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav'. Principal Hari Mangar have also informed that the school wants to take the opportunity to thank the chief minister of Sikkim, PS Tamang, for supporting the younger generation in sports and fitness.

The checkpoints of today's run were, Bhanjyang Bazaar, Phongla Bazaar, Namthang, Mamring, Singtam, Ranipool, Tadong, and, Deorali, and its concluding venue was MG Marg Gangtok. Bikash Chettri reached MG Marg in Gangtok at 5pm in the evening.
