Siliguri, 28th November: Central goods and services tax (CGST), Siliguri team arrested an exporter in Siliguri on Thursday. Neema Lhamu Sherpa, Assistant Commissioner of CGST & CX, Siliguri Commissionerate said that the accused person is a mastermind, arrested on the charges of assisting in paper export of Cigarettes, Pan Masala and other commodities to Bhutan and defrauding the government and claiming ineligible refund against such export, running into crores of rupees over a period of time. Evidence on record leads to strong belief that the accused has indulged in availing ITC on paper transactions, claiming refund, showing export of such goods to Bhutan and robbing public money. There cannot be any economic crime severe to fraud with public money. An Inquiry was initiated against the said entities M/s Kavya Enterprises and M/s S K Enterprises by Central CGST. Accused persons are engaged in purchase of goods without receiving goods in physical form and taking refund of ITC showing export to Bhutan adopting fraudulent practices. Searches were conducted at the residential and official premises of the accused resulting in seizure of incriminating documents. Further scrutiny of all such documents related to different transactions is being carried out to arrive at the exact amount loss to the exchequer has been caused by the said entities adopting fraudulent practice. “Accused named Ranjit Prasad of Jaigaon is being produced before the Court of Ld. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Siliguri on Thursday. Investigation is also being carried out against several other exporters, suspected to be involved in similar fraudulent practices,” said Sherpa. EOM
