Despite notifications from the Education department to include eleven state recognised local languages private schools have not implemented the notification.
The notification reads Eleven Local Languages viz, Bhutia, Lepcha, Nepali, Limboo, Tamang, Gurung, Manger, Sherpa, Mukhia, Rai & Newar as second Language in all Private Schools of Sikkim.
It further reads Vide Circular Ref. No. 15/Exam/HRDD, dated: 12.05.2017. This is for the information of all concerned that the State Government has adopted the three Language formula in the following manner to be implemented in all the Schools of the State.

First Language: Being the Medium of Instruction, English will be the first language.

Second Language: Any one of the State recognized eleven local languages viz, Bhutia Lepcha, Nepali, Limboo, Tamang, Gurung, Manger, Sherpa, Mukhia, Rai & Newar.

Third Language: Hindi will be the third language.
Therefore, it is mandatory for all the Public/Private Schools Registered with Education Department, Government of Sikkim to strictly conform with this policy as per the needs of their respective students community.
Further, all the Private Schools requires to submit a compliance letter with proper evidence, to the Director, Exam Cell, Education Department, Government of Sikkim, Gangtok, for Renewal of their provisional Registration.
While Sikkim News tried to reach out to the Education department on the matter Sonam Lepcha, Director Laguage, Education department shared "The Education department is implementing agency in this case and as per the new education policy we have also opted for 3 language formula medium English, Second ( Regional Language Parent's choice ) and third Hindi"
All the schools were repeatedly apprised to implement the three language formula but despite notification from the Education department private schools have not implemented the same told Sonam Lepcha, Director Laguage, Education department.
He also said through the School Management Committee we tried to implement the same and suggested an appointment of teachers but it was practically not feasible to recruit language teachers in private schools but few have implemented it from the school management committee and constant efforts are there to recruit but it also needs awareness and parents should also stress on the same to school committees to implement so it needs some time to fully implement.
