Forest Department North has launched an initiative of Mero Rukh Mero Santati' (Plant a Tree, Leave a Legacy) under which 100 trees will be planted for new born in the state.
The flagship programme was earlier launched by the Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang-Golay which is the first of its kind innovative initiative in India.
The event was graced by Area Area MLA Dzongu cum Advisor Power Deptt, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha in presence of Hon'ble Chairperson Sikkim State Women Commission smt, Chungkipu Lepcha, Zilla Adhyaksha North shri Kado Lepcha, Upadhakshya North, Smt Sonam Kipa Bhutia officials from the forest department led by CCF (T), Nima Wangdi Tamang, CF (T), Karma Legshey D,DFO Soil Conservation, Jigdel Lachenpa, DFO Territorial, Pempa Dadul Lachenpa, RO's,BO's,FG's,officials from forest department,students, zilla members & Gram Panchayats The Khangree Riders Motorcycle Club and the general public.
At the programme, the chief guest also handed over parents registration certificates and seedlings to Nine new parents. 200 have been planted at Lungba Dara foe two new born while 700 more saplings have been disbursed to the beneficiaries of seven new born.The forest Department will monitor the plants saplings, it is learnt.
While highlighting the programme, CCF (T), Nima Wangdi Tamang informed that initiative will transform the attitude of the people towards nature, and saplings planted to commemorate childbirth will create a bridge between the generation to generation in future.
