Gangtok: 26, June: International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit trafficking is observed on 26 June every year.
In effort towards the same to motivate people in Sikkim state for fight against drug abuse, Indian Army organised multiple events in East Sikkim. A series of events to include Anti-Drug March, Painting/Poster making competition, and lectures were conducted in Kyongnosla, Bojoghari, and Burtuk in East Sikkim.
Youth were also educated about how they can fight against the evil, first by themselves, not falling prey to it, and secondly, by spreading awareness about it. In order to drive home a point, a painting/poster making competition was organised, along with an informative lecture and short video clips, emphasising the effects and greater loss to society and country.
The first three winners of the painting competition were felicitated with awards. The citizens marched on the roads to create awareness on the harmful effects of drugs in our life. The youth of Sikkim actively participated in all the events and took an oath to stay away from drugs.
